about

These chant lyrics come from Father Thomas Keating’s poem called “The Last Laugh” from his book called “The Secret Embrace”. This spiritual theme of dying to our old self and becoming more and more of our god-self is prevalent in the Bible. Jesus especially emphasized it and St. Paul teaches it (cf. Ephesians 4:22-24). This theme is a solid core of most faith traditions and teachings. As we pray with this chant, may it be our intention to trust the Holy One to guide us in a day-by-day process of letting go of our false self and unveiling more and more of our true god-self.

lyrics

As the false disappears,
Then the true is born.
